BEHAVIOR/HABITAT: A dark, chunky grosbeak of summer, found mainly in the south. Favors bushy places such as riversides, woodland edge, desert washes.
IDENTIFYING MARKS: 7"; very thick bill, wide buff or cinnamon wing bars. Male very dark blue, female warm brown.
VOICE: Song is fast, low, husky warble. Call notes are loud metallic tink! Also a dry buzz.
