HABITAT/BEHAVIOR: Widespread in the west in summer, at marshes and prairie lakes. Most go to Pacific coast in winter, some stay in interior; very rare in east.
IDENTIFYING MARKS: 21" w54"; Between Herring and Ring-Billed gull in size. Adult slightly darker gray on back than either, with dark eyes, greenish yellow legs, black and red spots on yellow bill. Reaches adult plumage in fourth winter.
