Also known as the European rabbit, it is a small, grey-brown animal distinguished by their hopping way of movement and four sharp incisors that grow continuosly through its life. Rabbits are social animals who live in groups, and eat mainly grass and leaves. Rabbits are well known for their ability to reproduce, and breed in burrows.
Being able to reproduce at three to four months old, and producing up to a dozen young several times a year, rabbits have become invasive species in may parts of the world. In Australia, the introduction of 24 rabbits in 1859 has grown into a population of 600 million within a century. These rabbits were brought into Britain by the Romans in they year 43, with a current population of about 40 million in the British Isles.
