If you're a birder, you'll know what a life list is. It's basically a list of all the bird species one has observed and positively ID'd in one's lifetime. This blog is a record of my "critter" life list (mostly of birds), including photos I've taken over the years, some of the actual lifer if I was lucky enough to get the shot. Don't expect National Geographic quality stuff here, just the work of an amateur photog who loves to trudge out into nature.

Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum)

COMMON NAME: Cedar Waxwing

SPECIES: Bombycilla cedrorum

FAMILY: Bombycillidae (Waxwings)

LIFE LIST DATE: 2/2/2002

LOCATION: Large flock eating berries at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, Arcadia, CA

From Kaufman Focus Guide: Birds of North America:

BEHAVIOR/HABITAT: These elegant little nomads may be present by the hundreds one month, absent the next, as their flocks rove about in search of wild berries. Their flocks break up into pairs for nesting in midsummer, but otherwise they are almost always in groups - it is rare to see just one waxwing. 

IDENTIFYING MARKS: 7"; Yellow band on tail tip, narrow dark mask and throat, yellow belly, short crest.

VOICE: Thin, high-pitched sseee.
