If you're a birder, you'll know what a life list is. It's basically a list of all the bird species one has observed and positively ID'd in one's lifetime. This blog is a record of my "critter" life list (mostly of birds), including photos I've taken over the years, some of the actual lifer if I was lucky enough to get the shot. Don't expect National Geographic quality stuff here, just the work of an amateur photog who loves to trudge out into nature.

BEHAVIOR/HABITAT: A dainty egret that dances in the shallows, often shuffling its feet or dashing about actively as it pursues minnows and tadpoles. Many egrets develop long filmy feathers (called "aigrettes") in breeding plumage; those of the Snowy are especially long and lacy.

IDENTIFYING MARKS: 24"; Legs mostly black with yellow feet ("golden slippers"). Bill black, with yellow on loses (in front of eye). Immatures may have legs mostly greenish at first, base of bill gray.

VOICE: In breeding colonies, wah-wah-wah; during aggression a harsh aah.
