If you're a birder, you'll know what a life list is. It's basically a list of all the bird species one has observed and positively ID'd in one's lifetime. This blog is a record of my "critter" life list (mostly of birds), including photos I've taken over the years, some of the actual lifer if I was lucky enough to get the shot. Don't expect National Geographic quality stuff here, just the work of an amateur photog who loves to trudge out into nature.

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)

From Stokes Field Guide to Birds: Western Region

IDENTIFYING MARKS: 16"; In flight: in all plumages, large falcon; relatively long tapered wings; long broad tail; dark crown; broad sideburn on cheek extends below eye. Flight is direct with steady rowing beats on swept-back wings. Plumage varies from the Tundra form, which is bluish gray above with a white chest, to the Peale's form, which is darker above with a heavily spotted chest. As in most falcons, females are noticeably larger than males. Perched: bluish gray back; barred belly; white bib; wide dark sideburn. 

VOICE: A series of harsh high-pitched sounds like ki ki ki ki ki given as an alarm near the nest.
