In the fall of 2002, we took a trip up to the Eastern Sierras to see the fall colors. On the way back, we stopped at a wildlife viewing area between Independence and Big Pine off of Hwy. 395 in hopes of seeing some Tule elk. But then I got distracted by this cute little Savannah sparrow perched on a nearby barbed wire fence.
From Stokes Field Guide to Birds: Western Region:
VOICE: Song is several short notes followed by 2 rapid, high-pitched buzzy trills, the 2nd one lower-pitched, like tsit tsit tsit zee zaaay.
