HABITAT: In early summer, this tanager likes cool conifer forests of northwest and high mountains. During spring and fall migration, may appear in cities, farmland, even desert.
IDENTIFYING MARKS: 7 1/4"; Adult male yellow and black with red face. Female and young dull yellow with gray back and wings, two wing bars.
VOICE: Rising and falling whistles, robinlike, but hoarser. Call note a dry rising pro-di-dit?
